What?

coming up soon....

we are getting very close to the upcoming exhibition. very exciting and I´d better get started on thinking of some clever words to say for my introduction. Its the first time the city of Uelzen is exhibiting works of sequential art. Thanks a million to my beautiful wife for designing the invitations and preparing the exhibition!

Sunshine

Scarf

I have just started doing a series of character studies as I did last year . I have been busy all week teaching classical animation. To clear my head afterwards I usually just doodle and sketch from magazines, before starting other work. I kind of like the color contrast on this one, but did not get the smile on her face right.

Our cattledog Lucy is looking at an illustration I finished earlier this year (I am pretty sure this has been  about the largest format I ever illustrated so far).

Monsters

Besides Pirates, I sometimes also get to draw some monsters. These are some quick doodles I did for a pitch a few weeks ago. Did not go anywhere, but was fun to do.

Birthday Month Coming Up...

Bicycle

Got crazy with work this week...and some more crazy. But not before I had absolutely nothing to do and could experiment a little bit with drawing realistic. The backdrop is a little village in Hessen, where I spent some time during childhood.

...I am more in tune with the seasons now. I always connect the "thought" of butterflies with springtime though. But they are most prominent in the late summer..at least around here....

School Cone

My daughter was complaining about me drawing boys more often than girls. And I think this one turned out a bit better than yesterdays sketch.

school start

My son just started school. Traditionally there is a celebration at church and school for that event here in germany. Lots of small children with enormous school bags and "school cones" (I just copied this from the Wiki as I realized that most of you dont know about this tradition: When children in Germany set off for their first day in school upon entering first grade, their parents and/or grandparents present them with a big cardboard cone, prettily decorated and filled with toys, chocolate, candies, school supplies, and various other goodies. It is given to children to make this anxiously awaited first day of school a little bit sweeter. The tradition of the "Schultüte" leads back to approximately 1810, to Saxony and Thuringia in Germany. The first documented report of the cone-shaped Schultüte comes from the city of Jena in 1817, closely followed by reports from Dresden (1820) and Leipzig (1836). It started in the bigger cities but spread quickly to the small towns and villages, soon becoming an institution all over Germany.)

Sleigh

...maybe its because I am just story boarding a sequence with snow, skies and a sleigh in it...or maybe because we stopped by the snow dome (a huge building where you can ski indoors even during the summer) I felt like finishing a sketch I did in January. Not sure about the colors. I think I need a second go at it....
